Elucidating the Role of IgA in Allergic Disease

We uncover an inhibitory role for IgA in mast cell degranulation. We conclude that IgA serves as a regulator of mast cell degranulation, including anaphylaxis, providing a new therapeutic potential for IgE-mediated allergic disease. Additionally, through the development of mice deficient in IgA but...

Zusammenfassung:We uncover an inhibitory role for IgA in mast cell degranulation. We conclude that IgA serves as a regulator of mast cell degranulation, including anaphylaxis, providing a new therapeutic potential for IgE-mediated allergic disease. Additionally, through the development of mice deficient in IgA but with an intact IgE locus, we have been able to investigate the consequences of IgA deficiency on immune equilibrium and systemic antibody responses in the context of allergic conditions. We conclude that the role of IgA in maintaining the gut microbiome plays a crucial role in regulating adaptive immune responses, particularly in the induction of IgE antibodies.
