Achoimre:A new strategy for the design of selective protein kinase inhibitors has been initiated with chemically inert metallo-pyridocarbazoles scaffold by the group of Prof. Meggers since 2004. The natural product staurosporine was used as lead structure, in which the indolocarbazole alkaloid structure was replaced with simple metal complex to match the shape of the ATP-binding site of protein kinases (Figure 5.1). Whereas previous work was focused mainly on half-sandwich complexes, this thesis had the goal to develop octahedral ruthenium complexes as protein kinase inhibitors.
