This work deals with a text composed by the Kashmirian Paṇḍit Sāhibrām on recent history of Kashmir (19th century). It contains a complete edition and a translation of selected passages with an analysis. Information about his biography and the reception of his works by European and Indian researchers is provided at the beginning. There follows a description of his hitherto discovered texts which gives an insight in his comprehensive and diverse oeuvre. He composed texts on history, ethics and medicine, adapted and translated texts from Arabian and Persian into Sanskrit and wrote commentaries on these texts. In his „Continuation of the Rājataraṅgiṇīs“ he reports on recent past and current events as an insider at the court of king Raṇbīr Singh from the Hindu point of view. Thus he justifies the conquest of Kashmir by foreigners with a curse caused by Brahmins. He describes king Raṇbīr Singh and his most important officials in an elaborated stanza with more than one level of meaning which can be understand only with his auto-commentary. Furthermore he gives accounts of natural desasters, like a severe earthquake, an outbreak of cholera and hard winters. An edition of Sāhibrām’s abstracts of Jonarāja’s Rājataraṅgiṇī and his letters is provided at the end of this work.
