In den USA leben ca. 12 Millionen illegale Einwanderer. Die vorliegende Arbeit versteht ihre Situation nicht als reinen Überlebenskampf. Sie sieht in der illegalen Einwanderung einen Akt zivilen Ungehorsams, und diese Kategorie gewinnt durch die Analyse ihres täglichen Ringens um soziale Akzeptanz neue Aktualität. Diese Untersuchung hebt die aktive Rolle der Migranten ohne Papiere im Alltag hervor und versucht die politische Natur von Handlungen sichtbar zu machen, die normalerweise gar nicht als solche verstanden werden.
