Mittels Methoden der Fernerkundung wurde erstmals der Bergnebelwald auf Taiwan kartiert. Dies geschah unter Nutzung eines Machine-Learning-Ansatzes auf Basis verschiedener Input-Daten. Eine mittels einer neu-entwickelten Methode zur Erkennung von Bodennebel aus MODIS-Satellitendaten erstellte Nebelstatistik erwies sich dabei als wichtigster Prediktor. Trainiert wurde das Machine-Learning-Modell mit punkthaften Daten über die Vegetationszusammensetzug aus der National Vegetation Database of Taiwan.
