Alongside CT, in recent years cone beam computed tomography (DVT; CBCT) has increasingly been regarded as an insufficient method for the visualisation of osseous structures in ear, nose and throat cases. Here a steady broadening of the indications for a DVT can be noted, with the result that it is currently used for a host of conditions relating to the anatomy of the lateral skull base and the frontal skull base. When compared to the CT, the advantage of imaging using DVT is that the radiation dose is lower, yet images with a sharp image quality can be generated. However, to date DVT has only been mentioned and recommended in a minimal number of guidelines, on account of the technology being relatively new and due to the low quantity of available data. Nonetheless a broader sphere of application can be expected in future. The aim of this study was therefore to analyse the use of DVT in otolaryngology conditions in childhood in clinical routine. In particular, the technical configuration parameters and areas of application with regard to important radiation protection when treating children are to be examined. To this end, the technical configuration parameters, patient data such as age and gender, and the associated justifying indication have been identified retrospectively. Considering the technical configuration, parameters and indications significant differences with regard to the region and the patient's age could be shown.
