Der Einsatz bioresorbierbarer Implantate i...

Salters osteotomy of the pelvis is an approved measure for operative therapy of congenital hip dysplasia. The use of K- wires causes a second surgery for material removement. This includes several risks for the young patients. The use of biodegradable pins could help to avoid a second surgery. Salters osteotomy of the pelvis was done on 44 pairs of porcine pelvis halves, each one half fixed with the pins , the other half with k- wire. 20 were exposed to a cyclical workload of 200N in 2000 cycles ans 24 were tested with a primary failure load of 2000N. There was no significant difference found between the two used materials for the stiffness during cyclic loading and maximum load. This allows the conclusion that the biodegradable pins provide the same stability as k- wires.
