Backround: As of 1 January 2009 newborns are entitled to universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS). With a prevalence of 1-3/1000, bilateral hearing disorders are the most common congenital disorders. If they are detected too late, the entire development of the child can be disrupted. Patients and methods: Auditory screening was conducted in 162 infants. As well as newborn hearing screening with screening BERA device MB11 with BERAphon, pre-, peri- and postnatal risks were established and considered in connection with the results of the newborn hearing screening. Results: We found a definite hearing loss of > 35 dB in 2 of the children examined. There was no significantly higher rate of hearing impairment in those high-risk children diagnosed.
