After stimulation of three thyroid cancer cell lines with several growth factors VEGF-secretion was analyzed by enzyme immunoassay.TSH was not the most powerfull stimulator of VEGF secretion. TGF-beta and EGF were more potent. In absence of a functional TSHr additional growth factors increase capacity for VEGF sectretion. TSHr signaling was evaluated by analyzing the effect of stimulators and inhibitors on VEGF protein levels under basal and TSH stimulated conditions. The effects of TSH were mediated by PKC rather than PKA.
