Table of Contents: Purpose of the present study is the examination of putative neuroprotective effects of intrathecally administered Baclofen in a modified four vessel occlusion model of transient global cerebral ischemia. Two treatment groups were formed. A dose of 1,5 µg baclofen has been given half an hour before and after ten minutes of global cerebral ischemia in either group. Histological examination of hippocampal CA1 area was performed one week after application and compared to control animals. Physiological parameters like body core and cranial temperature, respiratory parameters, blood glucose levels and mean arterial blood pressure were recorded for further analysis.
