The shock wave therapy is used in clinical daywork for years although the precise way of working is not yet defined. The actual study acts with the effects on healthy bone to show shock wave induced growth or redefine processes. I used seven New Zealand White Rabbits which I applicated 1000, 2000 or 4000 shock wave impulses at an energy of 1,49mJ/mm². 1, 8, 14 or 28 days after application the rabbits were killed, the bones taken and histologically examined. I made sclices and digitalised them. To do the measurement of the thickness of the corticalis at all four sides of the femora and the amount of vessels in the focus I used a morphometric software. The measurement of the vessels has been done by using the Weibel-Grid-Method. Another look was on damages of the periost. At last the lungs were microskopically examined so that I could see possible embolies. The results show no shock wave induced effects like bone growth or redefine processes although changing parameters were used. And no differencies between treated and untreated side were seen. So no induced processes of neovascularisation by extracorporal shock waves, no periost damages and no lung damages have taken place. These negative results underline that there is no effect by extracorporal shock wave therapy in bone treatment.
