Introduction: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the intracerebroventricular baclofen application on the arterial blood pressure of the rat. Methods: Male wistar-rats were anaesthetized with chloral-hydrate. After puncturing the femoralis arteria the rats were locked in a stereotactie frame and an injection cannula was positioned into the lateral ventricle. The blood pressure was registered for 2 hours. After application of 1,5 µg baclofen the equivalent volume of ringer solution, respectively the blood pressure was registered once again for 2 hours. Results: Baclofen effects after 10-15 min. a none significant decrease of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The maximum reduction of the systolic blood pressure was 10% higher than in the control group. For the diastolic blood pressure we registered a maximum reduction of 9% in comparison to the control group. In addition a stabilisation of the blood pressure could be noticed in the baclofen group. Conclusions: Baclofen effects after an intracerebroventriculare application a none significant decrease of the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. In addition the rats in the baclofen group had less blood pressure fluctuations.
