Fabrics which are stored in the clastic components of sedimentary rocks hide numerous information about the orogenic history of their souce area. The souce areas are no longer available for geologists since they were eroded or involved in much younger geological and orogenic events. By usind the method of grain fabric analysis components of sedimentary rocks of the lower carboniferous of the Frankenwald Area and the Western Sudetes are investigated. Going this way all the informatins stored in each of these components are telling the story of the orogenic history of these two areas. Four conglomerates of the Frankenwald Area were investigated. Each is characterized by dominating components. The engine of the orogenic history was thrust-tectonic which took place from the s to the N. But before that, all four source areas of the conglomerates were completly developed and were thrustet one after the other from S to N onto the Schelfbasin until the stratigraphie of the Frankenwald Area was built. The five conglomerates of the Western Sudetes show a very diferent kind of orogenic history. There were no characteristic components in each of them. The modell of source area analysis here is based on the modell of an pull-apart basin. This basin hat reached its sedimentary infill/content right from the massivs in the surrounding area. These massivs like the Eulengebirge or the Iser- and Riesengebirge were uplifted, eroded and supplied their sedimentary material in to the pull-apart basin. The Frankenwald Area had a central position in the Variscides, the Western Sudetes are situated at the eastern part of the Variscides. These different postitions are causing the different orogenic history of these two areas.
