Nach den Wahlen in Burma 2010 vermuteten Politiker, es würde ein "Fenster der Chancen" entstehen, obwohl die Wahlen nicht völlig frei und fair verlaufen waren. Dieses "Fenster der Chancen" könnte mittel- oder langfristig den Weg zu Demokratie in Burma weisen. Jedoch sind diese Erwartungen nicht nur irreführend, sie ignorieren auch die fortgesetzten, systematischen Menschenrechtsverletzungen der Militär-Junta, die ins Besondere auf ethnische Minderheiten zielen.
