Descripción
Zusammenfassung:This is an English translation of a story for children entitled "Gongitsune" written by the Japanese writer Niimi Nankichi. It speaks of an orphaned fox who develops sympathy for a peasant whose mother dies, leaving him alone in the world. However, the peasant fails to understand the kindnesses of the little fox and the story takes a tragic end. In Japanese folk tradition and literature the fox (kitsune) is often an ambiguous creature who can take on human characteristics in a provisional manner (hence gon-), often teasingly. Here the tricks of the little fox are overlaid by his compassionate actions. The present document file is entitled Gongitsuné A (translation). An explanatory postscript to this story is in preparation and will be published in the same place in due course under the document title Gongitsuné B (postscript).
