Questo volume e in parte il risultato di una conferenza organizzata nel 1998 dall’universita Ōani di Kyōo, in concomitanza con il cinquecentesimo anniversario della morte di Rennyo (1415-1499), l’ottavo successore di Shinran (1173-1262). L’universita in questione e affiliata con l’Ōani-ha, una delle principali ramificazioni del Buddhismo Shin (giapp.: Shinshū Ōtani-ha 真宗大谷派) di cui Shinran stesso e considerato il fondatore.
