Zusammenfassung:The paper offers a conceptual analysis of the significance of interactional competence in foreign language teaching. Specifically, the presentation examines the interactive dynamics in language classrooms from a didactic perspective. It describes the salient features of this perspective and underscores its potential for advancing research on interaction in the field of German as a foreign language. The second part of the paper delves into the concept of teachers' interactional competence. Various models are presented to showcase the diverse possibilities for characterizing this competence. Drawing on data from multiple studies, the paper elucidates how teachers manifest their interactional competence through specific actions. The paper also sheds light on the challenges teachers face in enhancing their professional skills. Notably, teachers require a broad range of interactional strategies to navigate different instructional contexts and phases of instruction effectively.
