»Her mit dem schönen Leben« oder doch nur »Gute Arbeit«? - Eine Untersuchung von Arbeitsbegriffen im Kontext beschäftigtenorientierter Instrumente der Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft ver.di

In this thesis the author analyses the constructs of "work" of the German Service Union ver.di. In the centre of the analysis are campaigns of the union that ought to be orientated on the lives of the employees: The employee survey and the organizing. The author asks which pictures of work the union paints in this campaigns. And if there still is enough space for the "rest" of the life. The thesis works with feminist theories of the work- and union studies. With the concept of precarity, as developed by Lorey and the guiding principle of "Soziabilität" as developed by the GendA-Kolleg in Marburg, documents and interviews are analysed. The thesis shows where the reality of the employees could not be included in the union's campaigns. Furthermore it shows how this is connected to the kind of work the employees pursue, as loose or tight forms of personal service.
