The primary aim of this thesis is traying to answer the question with a self-developed and conducted empirical research: With which methods do the Chinese DaF students, who have a similar language level, learn vocabulary more effectively in the same period? Four strategies have been chosen: two traditional methods, memorization and vocabulary in the word field, as one of the linguistic-cognitive methods, and two alternative methods, namely vocabulary with "memory" as one of the play methods, and vocabulary learning with the Tutorial "Hot Potatoes" as one of the multimedia and internet based methods. The effectiveness of the four methods was tested and compared through an experiment with Chinese testees. This thesis with the experiment ought to provide some suggestions for more effective vocabulary teaching for Chinese DaF students and identify possible directions for developing more effective DaF teaching practice in China.
