The aim of our investigation was to case study patients after a first ischemic stroke or a stroke recurrence to identify the chemical laboratory non-responders to acetylsalicylic acid (i.e. lack of inhibition of platelet aggregation in ex vivo - in vitro assay) and compare to clinical non-responders. The risk factors for stroke also formed part of the study.A total of 71 patients were examined, 53 had the first event of an ischemic insult, and 18 stroke recurrence. All except one patient showed an arterial hypertension. A total of 20 patients had diabetes mellitus. 26 patients were diagnosed with hyperlipidemia. Patients with prolonged closure time in the collagen / epinephrine cell (normal range: 85-165 sec) were defined as responders to acetylsalicylic acid. We found 14 (19.7%) non-responders.
