This thesis deals with the synthesis of axially and equatorially functionalized phthalocyanines and porphyrazines. The effects of different central metals, axial ligands as well as the substitution of the macrocyclic ligand on the properties were investigated by uv-vis-, fluorescence-, nmr- and esr-spectroscopy. Besides symmetrical phthalocyanines and pyrazinoporphyrazines, unsymmetrically substituted hybrid porphyrazines were also synthesized and characterized. Some of the novel axially functionalized titanium phthalocyanines were applied as sensitizers in TiO2- and ZnO-based dye sensitized solar cells.
