The aim of the study was to compare the combined morbidity and mortality rate for carotid surgery under the conditions of general - and locoregional anaesthesia. 439 consecutive endarterectomies were included from january 1996 to june 2000. The MM - rate was 4,46 % for general anaesthesia ( 224 cases ) and 2,79 % for locoregional anaesthesia ( 215 cases ). The difference is not significant for alpha = 5 %.
