The dissertation investigates the structural modifictaions of electrospun nanofibers at elevated temperatures. It is shown, that the nanofibers are subjected to Rayleigh instabilities, coalescence and wetting processes, which stand in competition to each other. The predominant process varies with the annealing conditions, fiber materials and substrates. For the example of cross-linking of nanofibers by coalescence it is shown how these processes can be used for structure formation. The dissertation also investigates how nanofibers can be homogeneously dispersed in a given polymer matrix, which is nbeccessary for the use of nanofibers in mechanical reinofrcement.
