In this thesis the selforganisation of molecular capsules in polar solvents from calix[4]arene building blocks with four ionic gruops was studied with Job plots, NMR titrations, NOESY experiments as well as ESI-MS measurements. ESI-MS(/MS) has been used as a method which allows the fast, specific and sensitive simultaneous detection and relative stability approximation of supramolecular assemblies in mixtures. MS/MS experiments reveal the same relative order of gas phase stabilities as previously found in solution. Furthermore, the amphiphilic Calix[4]arenetetraphosphonate receptors were embedded in lipid monolayers at the air/water interface. This system is able to distinguish between proteins of varying pI at nanomolar concentrations.
