This article presents interim results from the accompanying research of a GFL-class with 15 newly immigrated young people who have been attending a German „Gymnasium“ since autumn 2015. They took part in an intercultural classroom project on how to deal with time, which was carried out by the Arabic, Spanish and GFL teacher Maria Ramos (cf. this volume). She made them work on clearly defined „tasks with a profile“ and used various scaffolding-based methods. On the basis of qualitative and quantitative data collected throughout the teaching project, the language competence levels obtained showcase significant increases, as well as further development needs, especially with regard to text-bound speech patterns.
