Zusammenfassung

The article aims at understanding how ISIS presents itself through videos in relation to the notions of revolution and rebellion. While exposing a jihadi narrative, it appears that the group's discourse is more complex than a simple nihilism, and that its construction relies heavily on the narratives of the revolutionary war and the myths of rebellion, allowing it to offer a hybrid and particularly coherent discourse.

  • Thomas Richard, Université d'Auvergne

    A former student of the Paris Institute of Political Sciences (Sciences-Po), Thomas Richard received his PhD from the Université d’Auvergne Clermont I. He wrote his dissertation on political and identitary mythologies in the Middle East in the age of globalization, and was awarded the 2014 Michel de l’Hospital Prize and will soon be published. He has presented and published papers on issues such as war memories, identities as seen through cinema and monuments, and Middle Eastern cinema, in France and abroad. He was also a contributor to three manuals for Sciences-Po students on identities and history.
