From the perspective of right-wing extremism research, racism is generally included as part of a right-wing world view, but not as a power relationship. Conversely, from the perspective of racism research, right-wing extremism is negotiated as an expression of racism and is also not included theoretically. This study therefore raises the question of how racism is structured in right-wing discourses and attempts to shed light on racism as a power relationship, thus bringing the two fields of research closer together and take a closer look at the connection between racism and right-wing extremism. The studys subject is the analysis of racism in right-wing discourses on the basis of reporting in relevant right-wing media (JUNGE FREIHEIT, Sezession and COMPACT Magazine) between 2015 and 2020. This cross-research analysis is made possible by the use of the post-structuralist "What is the problem represented to be?" (WPR) approach by Carol Bacchi and Susan Goodwin. This approach, which originally stems from policy field research, not only enables application to other fields through its open analytical concept, but also allows the focus to be placed on power relations and their effects in discourse through its orientation towards Foucault's work. In conclusion, the study shows that racism is a fundamental element of right-wing discourse. Without it, existential parts of the discourse cannot be maintained. Furthermore, gaps in the discourses themselves are central to the preservation of right-wing discourses. For example, terms such as racism and right-wing extremism must remain empty in right-wing discourses in order to maintain them. Conspiracy narratives and crisis narratives are also of particular importance, as they act as brackets and can link different aspects of right-wing discourses and/or are able to bridge contradictions.
