The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different preparation regimens of the proximal box on marginal quality of ceramic inlays. In particular, it should be examined whether a remaining thin outer enamel remnant affects restoration quality. Therefore, a special focus was directed to enamel cracks or weakening of remaining tooth structures. For this purpose, the described preparation scenarios with or without enamel lamella were investigated using different luting composites: Variolink Esthetik DC (Ivoclar Vivadent), TheraCem Ca (Bisco), Visalys CemCore composite (Kettenbach), and Panavia SA Cement Universal (Kuraray) were used. The results were compared with previous results of identical materials with margins below the cemento-enamel-junction.
