Descripció
Sumari:This work studies non-finite subordination strategies in Middle Welsh formed with preposition/particle and the verbal noun (ppvn). Based on the model in Scherschel, Widmer & Poppe 2018 the current framework refines the four categories of subordination strategies (adnominal modification, absolute, adjunct, complement) by integrating both Celtic as well as typological literature. The study is data-driven and the analyses are based on a corpus of both indigenous and translational (Latin) texts. The current study presents, for the first time, one model to provide analyses for all four non-finite subordination strategies. At the same time, these strategies are compared to typological findings of subordination. Thus, this study examines a neglected phenomenon in Celtic linguistics on the one hand and offers points of contact for cross-lingual studies.
