The present work investigates the relation between the phenomena of laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) and optical tweezer. Both phenomena are well known in the literature, their fundamental mechanisms however are usually examined separate from each other. Results presented here indicate that LIPSS and optical tweezer are based on the same mechanism, respectively LIPSS are a product of an optical tweezer effect acting on a surface. To make a statement about the relation and interactions between LIPSS formation and optical tweezer, both phenomena are initially examined separat from each other. Alongside the literature known LIPSS another surface structure is studied, the single gold wires (SGW), which are presumably generated by an optical tweezer acting on a surface. The novel SGW are investigated with regard to their formation parameters and characteristics as well as their mechanism of origin. Furthermore, additional transition structures originating from a mutual interference of LIPSS and SGW formation are presented and investigated with regards to their mechanism of origin. A final chapter compares the underlying mechanisms of LIPSS and SGW. Therefore, the forces, which are involved in the formation of these surface structures, are discussed as well as the issue of whether LIPSS and SGW are the result of one and the same mechanism or originate from two different mechanisms.
