In this controlled clinical study the effect of child- and adolescent psychiatric treatment in an outpatient unit was tested with referred patients. These patients got "normal" treatments in "the real world". It is the first controlled study in a german speaking country that tested the outcome of outpatient treatment with psychiatric ill child and adolescents. The study has two main characteristics: It is a naturalistic study with referred, not recruited patients, which got a normal treatment. The second characteristic is, that it is a controlled study. We built a control group with the waiting list and compared this process with the process of the treatment-patients. We followed the treatment over 12 months at four times (n=46). We looked for three characteristics of the patients: (1) the life-quality of the patients from the parents-viewing (ILK-parents), (2) the life-quality of the patients from the patients-viewing (ILK-child/adolescents) and the (3) psychopathology of the parents viewing (CBCL).
