Table of Contents: Glaucom is the third reason for blindness after diabetes and maculardegeneration in the industrial countries. In Germany and all aroun the world are many patients which are risked or fallen ill on glaucoma, which costs a lot. These patiens although suffer from psychical problems so this study was created to examan the effect of a special music-therapie on glaucoma. Glaucoma-therapy has the task to protect the visual acuity and the quality of life. Glaucoma is associated with more or less high intraocular pressure and in most cases with medical concomitant symptoms for example perfusion problems. Also psychical symptoms like depression and anxiety are concomitant. The aim was to show the effect of a special musictherapy on intraocular pressure, puls, skin resitance, mucle relaxation,EEG and subjective feeling of the patient in singular examinations over ten days. For the long term follow up we messured the intraocular pressure, visual acuity, visual field and the subjective beeing three month before and after the sigular examinations. The CD was a special music and relaxation program to improve the perfusion. 21 patients with glaucoma were randomized into to groups and they get to hear one of the two CDs (one with and one without binauricular oscilations. Results: The intraocular pressure dropted in the examination, over the 10 days and long term follow up. Also the visual acuity, visual field and subjective beeing improved. Puls, muscle relaxation and skin resistance showed the patients relaxation. In the EEG the effect was not clear, but it showed a little relaxation. The subjective beeing after the examination showed also an improvement. There was no difference between the both CDs. The patients medical therapy could drop down in 37%. 90% of the patients could reduce there medical therapie or showed lower intraocular pressure. So these results show that musictherapy could improve the patients situation and quality of life. It gives a little bit more security, because it can help to reduce the intraoculare pressure and medical therapy, and improve visual acuity and visual field. It is also a cheap therapy.
