Life-threatening complications and deaths due to thrombocytopenia caused by sarcoidosis are rare but well-described. In literature, mainly case-reports exist. We analyzed in a retrospective study 78 cases regarding laboratory data and organ involvement in sarcoidosis. The age of onset was 45 years. 49% of the patients were women. Anaemia was found in 7.7%, leukopenia in 11.5% and thrombocytopenia in 2.6% of the patients. Furthermore, 87% of the patients had hilar adenopathy, lung involvement was seen in 37% and splenomegaly in 27%. Eye, liver and skin affection was diagnosed in 6% of the cases. In conclusion, several clinical appearances, different diagnostic standards and geographical factors complicate the comparison of our data with other studies. In the case of abnormal data, sarcoidosis should be considered as differential diagnosis.
