The main goal of this Ph.D. thesis is to identify all time drivers of relevance in logistical systems. Moreover, an approach to measure the performance of logistical systems on the basis of the critical success factor time is suggested. Therefore, the author firstly suggests two models to map the structure and the processes of logistical systems. Then two models for evaluation of the performance of logistical structures and processes are suggested. The models are mainly based upon logical conclusions from theoretical statements. In addition, the evaluation models are based upon the findings of an empirical study. This study has been conducted in two industrial sectors: 1) measurement and control technology, medical technology, optics. 2) metal production and metal machining. Moreover, the effects of an optimization of the time consumption for logistical activities on a company's profit and earning power are analyzed.
