Igor Johannsen, University of Marburg

is a research fellow in the research network Re-Configurations. History, Remembrance and Transformation Processes in the Middle East and North Africa at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies in Marburg. He received his M.A. in Islamic/Middle Eastern Studies in 2011 from Hamburg University. Currently, he is working on his dissertation on the cultural practices of hip hop in the context of political and social transformations in the Middle East since 2011. He has presented his work in progress on several occasions in Germany, Egypt, and the USA and is co-editor of the forthcoming seventh issue of META on “culture” (fall 2016).
